Roller bearings for your 3D printer

Discover roller bearings for your 3D printer and CNC machine with our wide collection. We have compiled all the high-performing roller bearings that can easily be mounted to a machine. Roller bearings are bearings that use a rolling element to support loads and therefore can come in different sizes and shapes.

Roller bearings are the most popular types of bearings used for a wide number of applications. They have the important task of ensuring that friction is kept low for the machine to operate as efficiently and smoothly as possible without obtaining any damage from wear. Without bearings, there would be a lot of friction between two mechanical parts which would cause extreme abrasion and require constant maintenance and part replacement. They are for this reason cost-effective and ensure reliable and consistent machine performance.

Replace your machine’s roller bearings on time

In most cases, standard roller bearings will last for around 8 to 12 years. This is if they are properly maintained during their use. The best way to know if a roller bearing needs replacement is by spinning the outer ring and seeing if it still spins smoothly. If this no longer spins as smoothly as it used to, then it is certainly time for an update. If there is any discoloration in the races, then it is time to replace your roller bearings.

3D printer roller bearings

In a 3D printer, roller bearings keep lead screws in place, supporting the X-axis. They also support the guide and motion of timing belt systems ensuring extreme precision. Roller bearings can be found in most machines and devices, for example, driers, bicycles, and Mars rovers.

CNC machine roller bearings

Roller bearings support radial and axial loads within a CNC machine. Roller bearings allow for the tool head to have the ability to move smoothly with precision, following accurate machine instructions. This is supported by the cylindrical rolling components in place.

 Roller bearing components

Roller bearings are a type of bearing with several distinct mechanical parts. A roller bearing will mostly have two discs or rings that have raceways, the rolling element which is the small cylinders, and the cage to keep the rolling bits in place. This design is in place to reduce friction while ensuring high precision.

Mount your roller bearings onto your 3D printer

Before you mount any bearings onto your 3D printer, make sure to clean the mounting surfaces and also have 3D bearing oil at hand. Once you have properly assembled the roller bearings, ensure that the surrounded components are also significantly lubricated to avoid friction to provide smooth movement.

Maintain your 3D printer’s roller bearings

For the best performance of your 3D printer, keep your roller bearings in the best condition. We recommended that you store your roller bearings in their delivered package safely sealed off. Only remove the roller bearings from their packaging once you are sure that you will use them. Once installed onto your machine, roller bearings need to be greased from time to time, depending on how often you run your machine. In case you are not using your 3D printer, it is still important to lubricate your bearings so that they stay in good shape while your machine is in storage.

Select roller bearings for your CNC machine or 3D printer

Choose a bearing input and output diameter size that will match your 3D printer or CNC machine. The bore size of the bearing is important to consider, check that the bore diameter will properly fit the frames and bars that you are working with. The thickness of the roller bearing will also determine how much of a load can be handled. Make sure that the roller bearing you use will support the load fully.
