A smaller diameter-sized nozzle can largely benefit a 3D model as smaller nozzles tend to produce prints at a higher resolution. This is also useful for makers who would like to achieve small layer heights. Do take into account that with a smaller layer height, the longer the 3D printing will take. In some cases, more abrasive filaments or filament with fibers like metal-filled and wood-filled filament can prove to print tricky when the diameter is very small. A larger diameter size for a nozzle means more material can be extruded onto the print surface. This cuts down printing time and is also known to produce parts that are more compact and strong, by using fewer layers.
One of the most important factors of a nozzle is the thread length and type. Select a nozzle with a thread type that will be compatible with your 3D printer. A wrong thread type would mean that the nozzle simply cannot be screwed into place. Furthermore, choose a thread length that will fit and not stick out of your heater block too far. The most common thread type is the MK8 nozzle that will work with the majority of 3D printers.

The ideal nozzle to 3D print standard PLA filament is a brass nozzle. Every nozzle material can print PLA however, brass is cost-effective and works perfectly for PLA filament. Select a brass nozzle size based on the level of detail you would like your 3D models to have.
The best nozzle material to use for PETG filament is a brass nozzle. They work perfectly for standard filament materials. Choose a brass nozzle input diameter size that will compliment your 3D models. With a smaller diameter size, you can achieve highly detailed 3D models whereas a larger diameter size means faster printing of larger objects.
To successfully print ABS filament, use a brass nozzle. The standard size for brass nozzles is 0.4 mm however, there are multiple sizes of brass nozzles that you can choose from. Select a brass nozzle size that you prefer to 3D print with. A larger input diameter size allows finer extrusion in smaller layers whereas larger input sizes will create large layers that are strong and compact in less time.
There are many ways to unclog your 3D printer’s nozzle. One way is to perform hot and cold pulls using cleaning filament. With a metal nozzle cleaner, you can also unlodge and remove material buildup in a 3D printer’s nozzle. If you have been 3D printing with ABS filament, you can dissolve any stuck material using acetone.
The kind of nozzle you require will depend on the type of 3D printer you have. Most 3D printers use MK8 nozzles except for some Creality 3D printers that use M6x.75 type nozzles. Please take into account that dome 3D printers have specialized nozzles that only fit a certain model.
If you have a PTFE tube that is not properly connected to the nozzle top, it can leak through. If you are not using a PTFE liner, there may be a gap between the heat break and the nozzle. To fix the gap for your PTFE tube, cut the end of the Bowden tube to a straight cut. Without PTFE tubing, heat up the hot end to 180°C, tighten the nozzle, heat to 210°C and tighten, back to 180°C and tighten, to 250°C and tighten. This should seal it.
